Most rashes are readily treated and cured while others are easily controlled with proper diagnosis and treatment. Why suffer when Dr. Llewellyn may have treatments available to help you?
You may have a rash if you experience one or more of the following symptoms:
These symptoms can be caused by other problems as well. We recommend that you schedule a consultation to receive the appropriate diagnosis and rash treatment.
Contact dermatitis is a very itchy red rash that occurs when your skin comes into contact with something that you have developed an allergy to. One of the most common examples of a contact dermatitis is poison oak. Contact dermatitis, however, may be due to other plants or substances (fragrances, preservatives, dyes, cosmetics, metals, adhesives, topical medications, rubber, resins, hair dye etc..). If the cause of your contact dermatitis is a mystery, Dr. Llewellyn can perform allergy patch testing to try and identify what you are allergic to so that you may effectively avoid it.
Treatment for contact dermatitis will vary depending on the severity of the rash and may range from topical steroid creams and oral antihistamines to an oral prednisone taper or a steroid intramuscular injection to calm the reaction.
Insect bites may be very itchy and painful and sometimes trigger other rashes and symptoms. Steroid creams and oral antihistamines may be prescribed for insect bites.
Urticaria (hives) are red, itchy, swollen, raised areas sometimes with central clearing that tend to move around the body. The skin reaction is typically a result of the release of histamines and other cytokines by mast cells. There are many potential causes of hives and hence the treatment of hives may vary from person to person depending on the cause.
