Age related volume loss of the mid cheeks (thinning cheeks), loss of volume around the mouth resulting in prominent nasolabial folds (parentheses lines), loss of lip fullness and vertical lip lines are aging processes that can add years to your appearance. Dr. Keith Llewellyn remedies these concerns with the Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers for men and women in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Solvang, Santa Maria, Santa Ynez, and the surrounding areas of California.
Juvéderm® is a very smooth gel composed of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring hydrating substance found in our skin. As we age and get exposed to the sun, our naturally occurring hyaluronic acid diminishes. This results in loss of volume of the skin, the loss of a youthful cheek countour, and the formation of lines and deeper facial folds.
By using Juvéderm®, we are simply replacing what you have lost over time to restore your skin’s volume and soften your facial lines, folds and wrinkles. Juvéderm® has a very natural and comfortable feel when placed in the dermal layer of the skin. To further enhance the comfort of the injections, Juvéderm® products have lidocaine (an anesthetic) mixed into the syringe as well.
We do not offer Dysport® or Restylane® products, as our patients have been most satisfied with the natural feel and look of Juvéderm® fillers. Dr. Llewellyn offers the following products in the Juvéderm® family:
It is difficult to tell, as every person varies. We recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation with our Aesthetic PA/RN to establish a treatment plan that fits your goals and budget. We accept payment by cash and major credit card, and you can learn more on our financing page.
Most patients are good candidates for our Juvéderm® treatments, but the best way to find out is to schedule a consultation. If you have had an allergic reaction to a Juvéderm® product in the past then you would not be a good candidate for treatment. Additionally, you should not have Juvéderm® injections if you have a known allergy to lidocaine or to the proteins used to make the hyaluronic acid (gram-positive bacterial proteins).
We ask that you arrive makeup-free when possible. If you would like to have a topical numbing cream applied to the injection area(s), please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.
After the treatment:
Arnica supplements have been shown to reduce discomfort, bruising, and swelling from injectable procedures. Arnica pills may be started the day before or the day of treatment and should be continued until bruising has resolved.
Bruising is possible and, therefore, we recommend that you schedule any social plans accordingly. To minimize the risk of bruising, it is best to avoid aspirin (unless prescribed by your doctor), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (Advil, Motrin, Aleve or Ibuprofen), Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E, fish oil supplements two weeks prior to your treatment. If bruising does occur, we recommend Arnica, which is available in a natural cream and pill formulation. Many of our patients feel it helps with swelling and bruising. If bruising develops, it can take one to two weeks to resolve.
Depending on the Juvéderm® filler used, with optimal treatment, results may last up to one to two years. Keep in mind, however, results may vary.
