BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medication that can relax the muscles that cause deep, unwanted lines on your face. While BOTOX® cosmetic was FDA approved in 2002 to treat the lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows (the glabella), it is also widely used by dermatologists and dermasurgeons to improve crow’s feet (lines around the eyes), forehead lines and lines elsewhere. Today, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world
How It Helps
In one short office visit, Keith Llewellyn MD or our Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, can use BOTOX® cosmetic to relax the muscles that cause unwanted prominent lines and wrinkles between your eyebrows, around your eyes (crow’s feet) and on your forehead. No surgery or anesthesia is required. Typically, a few relatively painless injections of BOTOX® cosmetic are placed into the muscles that are causing these lines to form. Within 3 to 10 days, BOTOX® Cosmetic will relax these muscles and your facial lines and wrinkles will dramatically improve. There is no down time with BOTOX and the procedure itself only takes 10 minutes.
What to Expect
While initial effects with the injection are visible in as soon as 3-5 days, you should expect your final results to be achieved 2-3 weeks after an injection.
How to Prepare
Two weeks prior to your treatment, you should avoid taking aspirin (unless prescribed by your physician), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (Advil, Motrin, Alleve or Ibuprofen), Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E or fish oil supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
Most patients do not need topical numbing cream. Please notify our office if you desire a topical numbing cream. as you will need a longer appointment time.
Following your BOTOX® treatment do not work out or lay down for 4 hours following your injection.
